Dissolving Dysfunctional Power Cords
Strong emotions and memories may surface during this exercise. Breathe, and allow the emotions to be and move without any forcing on your part, without any holding on. It is possible to experience a response to this exercise some hours or even days later or for the work to continue in the dream state.
You may experience a sense of apprehension, doubt and/or fear as you settle into this visualization. Allow yourself to notice the fear without fighting it. Your ego is on alert, ready to protect you from harm. In the past, your ego may have learned to associate awareness with displeasure or punishment. By doing this exercise, you are retraining your ego and connecting it to your spirituality and your greater energetic reality in which awareness is a great gift.
Let us center and ground ourselves in the moment. Feel your breath. Allow your throat to soften to receive the breath. Become aware of the movement of your chest and diaphragm on the inhale and on the exhale. Soften. Feel the rhythm. Allow the body to become heavy to the floor or your chair. Soften the shoulders and hips so your energy can more easily run down to your palms and soles of the feet, so that the palms and feet can become more sensitive. Check the areas you know you hold stress and send your breath awareness into those body parts. Trust yourself. Trust the here and now.
Become aware of your root chakra at the base of your perineum or groin area. Imagine a light starting at this area and getting wider and wider as it moves down to your legs and surrounds your feet. Allow this light to define the ground you stand on. Let this light connect to the earth, if you are lying down, imagine the light curving and heading down through the floor to the earth below. Breathe into this connection.
Bring your awareness to your heart center. You can bring your hands to your heart and place them in a way that is comfortable. Take a moment to feel your heart. Expand into your capacity to love and gently breathe into your capacity to allow yourself to be loved.
Allow the image of a person to come to mind with whom you’ve had interpersonal difficulties, or call forth a situation where you experienced disempowerment, conflict and pain. Visualize, in your mind’s eye, this person 10 feet in front of you. If you are working with the image of an event or circumstance, visualize yourself in the situation and the physical environment of that situation.
Take your time. Bring your image into sharp focus and detail. See the person’s face. Look into their eyes. Allow yourself to fully feel whatever emotions exist for you. Do not judge the emotions in any way. Simply feel. Experiment with placing the image closer to you or further away. Find the edge of where you feel afraid or disturbed by the close proximity of the person or place but still have a sense of yourself. See the person facing you then turn them around so that you can clearly see the person’s back. If you are working with a situation or circumstance, move yourself through the physical space. Find the spot where you feel the most distress and hold yourself there while you complete the exercise.
Become aware of your body while allowing this person or situation to hold steady in your internal vision. Today as we do this exercise we are going to work with one of our chakra centers. This exercise can then be repeated working with each of the chakra centers. To choose which chakra you will be working with right now, ask yourself to be guided to choose which chakra is most ready in the moment to release a dysfunctional power cord with this person or situation.
Scan or sense each of your seven centers, notice any subtle or obvious sensations, such as heat, tingling, dull or sharp body pain. Allow yourself to perceive an answer to this question. You may hear a response. You may experience pulling, tightening, or other noticeable discomforts in a particular chakra or in your body. In your mind’s eye you may see a cord, or a tangle of cords, or perhaps even a clump of something that looks like colored spaghetti.
If you do not ‘see’ a cord, that is fine. Simply allow your awareness to perceive the cord of energy in a way that is easy for you. You may feel a sense of movement or direction. You may feel a sense of emotional connection. You may hear sounds or the actual thought forms contained within the cord itself. Trust your knowingness or whatever form you receive information in this domain. Trust your experience.
When you have found the locus of tension or area of physical discomfort, put one of your hands on that place. If you cannot reach it because the sensation is in the rear aspect of a chakra, or on a body part too far to reach, imagine your breath creating a hand of light which can reach that area or focal point of tension. Allow the fingers of that hand of light to discern what type of hook or form of attachment the cord is connected with into your energy field. Grasp the hook or insertion point and in whatever way is appropriate, release the cord from its connection to you. Keep holding the hook or attachment with your hand of light and slowly begin to move your hand of light out of your physical body.
You can reconnect your hand of light to your physical hand and then begin moving your physical hand away from your body. Keep extending the cord away from your body until your feel a sense of tension release. You may hear an audible sound, or feel like sighing or vocalizing in some way. Continue until you feel or sense the cord disconnecting from your body.
Once again, look the person in the eyes; if you are dealing with a situation, allow yourself to fully experience the physical environment.
Say to yourself either silently or out loud:
In this moment I choose to give this energy back to you
As I do, I empower myself and my wholeness.
I reclaim my radiance and release you to yours
I take responsibility for my energy and release my body from any harm this cord has created
Bring your attention back to the area on your body where the hook was attached into you. Create a ball of light in whatever color feels appropriate for you and use that ball of light to heal and cleanse that area of your energetic body. Use your creativity to take care of any repair work that seems necessary after your particular visualization of releasing the cord. For example if the hook lift a hole you can stitch it up. When the area feels well attended to and restored take a nice cleansing breath in through the nose and exhaled out the mouth.
Now we will reverse the process. Scanning the image of the other person, find where you have a hook or nub of energy and a cord that connects you to them. With your hand of light and your fingers of light, grasp the hook or nub where ever it is attached into their body. Now, using your hand of light, gently withdraw the insertion hook or point of that cord out of their body and field. Now light up the cord just as you would light a fuse; watch the sparkle of energy as it traces along the cord back to one of your charkas or a particular part of your body. You are dissolving the cord of pain and disempowerment. Notice where this energy cord originated within you, light up this spot with clear, transparent light. With your hand of light bring the originating point of this cord to your heart. Continue to light it up and hold it inside your heart chakra. As you do say silently to yourself, or out loud:
I bring this information to my heart and center to be absorbed in self-love.
I release all substitutions of conditional love and approval which I accepted in the past.
It is my intention to release any self-judgment, past, present, or future, associated with this energy cord.
I welcome and accept the wisdom and guidance I need to help me be fully aware.
You can repeat the process in each of your energy centers, from crown to root. Remember to check the back aspects of your chakras for the hooks or nubs at the ends of cords.
When you have:
Gone through each energy center and dissolved the cords between you and this person;
And/or have dissolved the cords of energy you left in a place or physical environment;
And reclaimed your energy into your heart,
Honor yourself for your courage and the choice you have made to be open to change and a more satisfying connection to your personal integrity, your higher self, and your radiance.
If you would like to honor a healthy and appropriate love for this person or situation, set a clear intention of connection to this person in a way that embodies unconditional love and compassion. Allow energy to come in from your crown chakra and up from your root chakra. Allow the energy to converge in your heart’s center and when you are ready, send a loving and empowering cord of light to this person’s heart for them to receive when they are ready.
Go back to the image of the person or circumstance you summoned at the beginning of this exercise. See that person or situation becoming smaller and smaller, until the image disappears in a tiny flash of clear white light.
